  • The active principle of its dried body powder is 'cantharidin'. When applied to skin, blisters or vesicle appear.
  • When it is swallowed, it produces    
  • 1. burning sensation in the mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach and abdomen
  • 2. intense thirst and haematemisis.
  • 3. diarrhoea with blood and mucus.

Medico legal importance:
